If I were to give one piece of advice to small business owners,
It would be to think about what your brand on your website says about you. is it representing you in the best light? Then, put yourself in the hands of people that can take care of you.
Like many of us dipping our toe into the small business world, when Justin started tech consultancy Roadmap Heroes, he was unclear if there was a market for it.
Not wanting to over-commit, he got a website up and running using a popular DIY tool. Customers responded positively, and before long, Justin knew he needed a better, more professional web presence that more accurately represented him and his brand and demonstrated to his customers that he was worth investing in.
“I didn’t have best practices,” said Justin. “I want someone I could partner with that knew what they were doing and that could step me through the process and hold my hand.”
And that’s where we came in.
Working collaboratively with Justin, we walked him through our process step-by-step and created a website that his customers love and clearly articulated his services.
Just like a front door on his business, Justin’s site takes potential customers through a journey exploring their pain points and calling on them to take action and get in touch.
What’s more, Justin had the added benefit of knowing we could look after his website once it all went live, keeping everything updated and ensuring there were no issues.
Exploring the process
Like many small business owners, content creation was proving tricky.
Wanting to write his own copy, we provided Justin with the tools and structure to do a great job in a way that felt less overwhelming.
And we applied our experience and what we knew was working well for our other customers to ensure we captured the very best bits of what he had to say on the website.
Justin was concerned about the technical nature of what he was selling (consultancy and training to help tech teams use road mapping to plan, execute and communicate strategy).
We became an extension of his team, able to take his vision and explain it, through his website, in a way that everyone could understand.
Having that pair of eyes… that’s outside your industry can help make sure that nothing is overlooked in terms of how content is delivered, consumed and understood by somebody that doesn’t fully get it.
Reaping the rewards
I live by my brand now. I look at my website, and it makes me want to get up in the morning. I feel empowered by it, and you can’t really put a cost on that.
As with all our projects, working with Justin was iterative.
This way, he was able to feel more in control of the process, rather than us simply completing a design and invoicing him for it. We worked together on it over time, providing regular updates and getting feedback.
It was like we were all working on it together in a virtual team. It no longer became a service that i was buying, and it was a process that i really enjoyed.
Investing in a new website takes a leap of faith. But for Justin, knowing he wasn’t making that jump alone made all the difference.
We were able to steer him down the right path for his business, giving him confidence in his decisions and ensuring a great return on his investment.
Could you be our next success story?
